Constance Baker Motley Mock Trial Competition Overview
The Regional competitions consist of a maximum of 18 teams. Rounds simulate a civil trial proceeding where each team, consisting of four members each, offers opening statements, direct and cross-examination of witnesses, and closing arguments. Witnesses are not scored in this competition.
Advocates are evaluated on their overall courtroom presence, command of the Federal Rules of Evidence and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, teamwork, and timeliness and accuracy of objections. Each trial lasts approximately 2.5 hours.
The top three placing teams from each of the six regional competitions will be invited to compete at the National Convention, March 3-8, 2020 in Cincinnati, Ohio. We are excited to announce that this year, Barbri will provide prizes to the top placing teams at the national competition!
For THIS YEAR ONLY, NBLSA will allow chapters that do not currently satisfy the competition eligibility requirements of Article IX Section B, Subsection 2 of the NBLSA Bylaws to submit a fee of $140 and corresponding request form for permission to compete in NBLSA's advocacy competitions if they satisfy all other eligibility requirements. Questions regarding this update should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
